The Citrus Biotechnology Laboratory (CBL) is an industry focused laboratory using molecular and biotechnological tools to address citrus industry related challenges. The staff are seconded from Citrus Research International (CRI) with research projects, research activities and student bursaries funded by CRI.
The CBL mainly focusses on graft transmissible diseases such as virus and viroid diseases but has recently expanded to work on the complete HLB pathosystem. The CBL also develops detection and identification assays using an array of molecular tools for industry. The CBL is hosted in the Department of Genetics in Lab 242 in the JC Smuts Building.
